Laziness 101

For the past two weeks, there have been three things, and three things alone, that I've been interested in doing.

#1: Drinking Coffee. The stronger, the hotter, the more frequent, the better.

#2: Pinning All the Stuff. Particularly recipes for stuff I'll probably never make, DIY projects that I'll probably never attempt, and home decor stuff for a house we don't have yet.

#3: Watching Reruns of 30 Rock. Because Kenneth the page makes me laugh out loud. And Tina Fey is my s-hero.

(My love affair started with Kenneth when it was revealed that he is a clogger.)

It's true that all of these activities, when enjoyed separately, are all worthy endeavors of one's time. However, when you combine all three of them simultaneously, with the inclusion of pajamas, cookies baked from a Pinterest recipe (one of the few I tried), and a new-found Pepsi addiction, it's not a pretty thing. The only impression I'm making on my own life lately is the permanent one of my butt on the couch cushion.

I'm not sure what brought on the funk. Brian going back to school, recent personal health problems (i.e. a return of the dreaded kidney stone), the end of the summer Olympics....many different things could contribute to this new laziness I've been experiencing.

So this morning, I made the bed. I did some laundry. I vacuumed and straightened and dusted. I scrubbed my kitchen counter tops and soaked some stinky kitchen towels in hot water and baking soda (another tip from Pinterest.) I emptied my inbox and replied to some emails. I read some blogs and left some comments. I sharpened some pencils and painted my toenails. And finally, I wrote this blog.

I'm officially exhausted and will be rewarding myself with a hot cup of coffee and Season 5 of 30 Rock on Netflix.

What? I'm working on it.

Friday Gab Bag (Oh Wait...It's Saturday, Isn't It?)

If you're scratching your head at the title of this post, and wondering why I seem to have lost a day this week, there's a very simple answer for that, dear readers. You see, I worked out with Dana again last night. And we did step aerobics.

Of COURSE I was smiling the whole time. Just like her. I swear.

When the whining workout was completed, I diligently checked my new handy-dandy heart rate monitor to see how many calories I burned.

And had to pick my jaw up off the floor when I saw this:

Yes, that says seven hundred and eight calories burned. No, I'm not kidding.

Hence why my first word today was "OW."

Not only are my legs sore from the step-up, step-down, step-up-again motion, but my brain is FRIED. Which explains today's blog title. And also, why I'm sure this blog will make no sense to anyone. Even me.

There's still PLENTY of time to tell me all about the book that kept you busy during the holidays. The linky is open until the end of January, and I'm always eager to hear about an enticing read! So click on over to my post titled "I Read, Therefore I Am," read my own review of "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins, and share your favorite book, all in one fell swoop!

Also, yesterday I reached out for a little help from my friends. If you have an idea, a funny story, a conversation starter, or a topic you'd like to see me cover here on Abby Gabs, now's your chance to make your voice heard! Click on the tab above titled "Ask Abby Gabs," and give me your best shot!!

Here are three images from Pinterest that have made me laugh within the last 24 hours. (I totally stole this idea from Stephanie over at Love Life Project. She also has a hilarious NEW blog called Clay Baboons that you MUST MUST MUST read. It is fantastico.)

Ok, plug completed. Now let the hilarity ensue.

As soon as I can figure out how to rename my computer, I'm totally
going to do this. Because it's HILARIOUS, people. HILARIOUS.

This picture is funny for 2 reasons. 1) this cat looks like my cat, Pip and
2) it's REALLY cold outside here today and I would probably be on
the floor right beside him in a similar position.

Because alcohol is totally my motivation for jogging.
Seriously. Put a big ol' bottle of red wine at the finish line
and I will beat ALL the skinny beotches there. For reals, yo.

And finally---who watched the People's Choice Awards?!?! Did you burst with glee when you saw THIS?!? :

<SIGH>

I ♥ Nathan Fillion. I ♥ Castle and Firefly and Serenity and Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog and everything else he's ever been in.

And I'd be lying if I said I was NOT voting every single day per his requests on Twitter.

What? It's not cheating on Donnie Wahlberg if I Twitter-stalk other celebrities. Right?

As it turns out, blogs with a ton of links and pictures in them, even if they aren't cohesive or Photoshopped, takes just as much thought and time as the other kind. Brain is officially exhausted now. Must. Have. Coffee. And. Sleep. ZZZzzzzzz

The End.

My Favorite Way To Waste Time (When I'm Not Twitter-Stalking Donnie Wahlberg)

I know, I know. I'm really late to the party. I can think of five bloggers off the top of my head who have ALREADY WRITTEN the post I'm about to write. But you know what, that's ok. Because my mostly new obsession is totally worth writing about. And for those who have never heard of Pinterest...well, let me welcome you down the rabbit hole, my friends.

Ahh, Pinterest. How you intrigue me.

Quick, yet thorough explanation of Pinterest: think of it as a digital pin board, where you can collect all the things you love in one place. In your internet surfing time, are you constantly saving things to your favorites? Bookmarking items, only to forget where that bookmark wound up? Pinterest solves that problem. Are you a recipe hunter? Create a folder for all the yummy things you want to try, pin those recipes to your Pinterest board, and the next time you need an idea for dinner--voila. There it is, all in once place.

Ok, so maybe that wasn't so "quick." But it was definitely "thorough."

I first came to Pinterest when I started looking for tattoos back in August. And for the longest time, that's all I really looked for--photos of other people's tattoos that I liked, or other sources of inspiration to help me create my own tattoo.
And yes, in case you're wondering...I still look at tattoos. :0)

Once I found my tattoo idea (pictured above), I pretty much left Pinterest alone for awhile. Then one day recently, when I couldn't come up with a blog topic to save my life, I turned to Pinterest to wake up my creativity.

And I wound up with eleventy-hundred boards.

Ok, maybe not eleventy-hundred, but close.

Now I'm obsessed with pinning EVERYTHING. Recipes...CHECK!

Clever Do It Yourself projects...CHECK!

Super-hot pictures of Donnie Wahlberg in action...TRIPLE CHECK!

No need to thank me.

*Abby pauses to wipe drool from chin.*

In truth, anytime I feel like I need a little inspiration, I turn to Pinterest to get me "unstuck." There's a gazillion and one things on the internet. Pinterest just allows me to organize all those that I'm actually interested in. And I can find them all in one little corner of the world wide web.

Truly, at Pinterest, you'll find things that will make you chuckle...
I thought this relevant after the last series of photos uploaded.

Things that will make you say "AWWW..."

And possibly, also "who's a cute widdle puppy-wuppy face?"

Things that will make you want to pack your bags and head for the airport:

Santorini, Greece. Yes, please.

And words that you will print and tack to your desk for inspiration:

SO pertinent to me right now, as I continue to plow through NaNoWriMo!

And if you're more interested in other things (modern art, decorating tips, baby stuff) you'll find all those things on Pinterest, too!
It isn't only the world's most entertaining time suck (although it will keep you entertained for hours, and is known to be extremely addictive.) It's a way to wake up your senses, find your inspiration, and spark your creativity again.

If you're interested in any of the many things I've included in the photo collages below, feel free to message me and I'll send you a link.

Better yet, send me your email address, and I'll invite you to join the Pinning party. Then you can fall down the rabbit hole with me and all the other Pinterest addicts in the world.

And seriously, you're welcome for the half-naked Donnie Wahlberg. You can stop sending me text messages, emails, Tweets, and roses. I'm okay with sharing.
